00:01:01.378 - 00:01:21.410

Foreign welcome to another episode of Bible Women in Bathrobes. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is a wonderful woman of our Women warriors of Light advisory board, Lamyra Wheelwright.

LaMira, thank you for being here with me today.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:01:21.710 - 00:01:23.890

Of course. I'm always happy to be here.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:01:24.430 - 00:01:51.950

And we are so excited. Last week as we were prepping for Easter, we talked all about the Passover and the Lamb of God and what that name of Jesus Christ meant.

And today we're going to be diving into several more names that the Savior had. And so I thought we'd kick it off today with the name Jesus. And Lamyra, I'll just open this up. What does the name Jesus mean?

LaMira Wheelwright

00:01:53.130 - 00:03:23.142

You know, I was looking this up and I thought it, it is a Greek form of Joshua meaning God is help. And what I thought was interesting as I was reading about this is it said Jesus was actually a common name.

And because now we hear it and here, you know, like I hear Jesus or Jesus.

But when I heard that, I was like, you know, it's true for me it's, it's not a common name now necessarily that I hear in my culture, but it was there and it means when it says God is help. And I started thinking about that and reading into that, I thought, well, you know, what, what is, what does that even mean?

I was like, that's, he is who? The Lord who God sent to help us. He. And I love it. That it's just like God is help, meaning that's who we look to for help. That is who he sent.

And, and that God is that help. I don't know, it just like feels my brain is like it's all that cerebral educational thing. But it also means Savior, right?

That he is who is come to save and I know we'll talk more about that in another episode, but that is the basis of what I understand.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:03:23.326 - 00:05:08.830

Yeah. Yeah. And that's what I found in. In my. Looking into it as well. I know when. When Joseph had his dream and that he was supposed to marry Mary and.

And he was told that she was with child and that he should call his name Jesus. We learned that in Matthew chapter one. So he was told, you know, that his name is Jesus, which, like you said, means God is help or Savior.

And then we have the second part, which is. Well, there's one other verse that I think we should also peek at because it brings in Matthew chapter one, where we have that story of Joseph.

We hear, his name is Jesus. And when he was taken to the temple, his name was. Was Jesus. That's what they told the priests. This is what his name is. And then.

But when we look in Luke chapter two, when the.

When the angels appeared unto the shepherds, it's interesting that In Luke chapter 2, verse 11, it says, for unto you was born this day in the city of David, a savior. So Jesus meaning Savior, right. Which is Christ the Lord. And so that kind of bridges us into the Jesus Christ.

And so let's talk a little bit about Christ, because as I dove into this, I'm like, what. What does. What does this mean? So do you want me to say about Christ? Is that all right? Or do you want.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:05:08.870 - 00:05:10.142

Yeah, go right ahead.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:05:10.326 - 00:07:10.830

So as I looked at the word Christ, it meant the anointed. So the. The anointed, or it was another word for it was Messiah. And so Christ and Messiah can be used simultaneously.

And the Messiah was someone that had been prophesied about for thousands and thousands of years. In fact, when Jesus was talking to the woman at the well and, you know, she drew water out for him, and he had that beautiful conversation with her.

The one thing she said is she knew that someday Messiah would come and that he would make everything right. Basically, I'm summarizing, of course, but that is who. She said she knew that Messiah would come.

And then he goes on and she learns that she's talking to him right now. You know, how neat is that? So Jesus Christ, Christ, meaning the anointed.

And as I kind of looked a little more into anointed, what did anointed mean to ancient Israel? I found several really great verses in the Bible.

But I'll kind of summarize that being an anointed with oil signified God's blessings setting someone apart, like David and Saul were set a Point set apart or anointed kings also conferring authority or divine power on someone.

And so if you pause and think that Jesus Christ means anointed Savior, or the anointed savior kind of foretold that he was set aside, set apart, kind of a symbol of God's blessing, that he had a very unique role to play in. In God's plan. I don't know. What thoughts have you had on Christ slash Messiah?

LaMira Wheelwright

00:07:11.490 - 00:09:34.740

Yeah. When. When I was looking at Christ, right, And anointed, I. I thought it was interesting because I did the same thing you did.

And I read those scriptures. I'm like, where do we hear of anointings? And very much. I mean, in the Old Testament and the New Testament.

And the word I wrote down that came to me was a physical manifestation of the spiritual calling that. That we do it with the oil one, because the olive oil, right. That also is a representation of our Savior, of Jesus Christ.

But when you put those words together, God is help and he's the anointed. I love this.

I found the anoint, the one anointed of the Father to be his personal representative in all things pertaining to the salvation of mankind. And I loved that. And I loved. It's like saying, okay, well, I've got Jesus, which is a common name, which how many of us named our kids?

And I, I talk about that. Like when I named my kids, couple of their names were very clear. Like, I felt so right about it. And one of them has a more common name.

But can you imagine going, okay, well, I'm Jesus Christ. And then suddenly it's like, I'm the anointed one. And. Which makes sense why there was an uproar in the Jewish community. But.

But when I thought about that, I'm the one anointed to help you. I'm the one called to be here. And.

And just knowing the oil and the anointing is just as all the kings and the prophets and the priests and when they would go into the tabernacle, right. And anointings were used in their religious ceremonies. And then even when Mary anoints Christ, right. Our. Our Savior right before all of us.

But it's just. No, there's something very specific about it that you are the anointed one. It's just that's. That's who he is.

And so when he started saying, okay, I'm Jesus, and they said Jesus v. Nazareth, and then you're like, no, Jesus Christ. Oh, you know, and when you said the Messiah, that was the word that Meant that as well.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:09:35.040 - 00:11:35.440

Yeah. Jesus, the Messiah, they're. They're deliver, they're expected, they're anointed, expected, King and deliverer.

And so it's interesting to then take the pieces of all of that and see how it fits together. I love in Isaiah, chapter, chapter 61, there's a beautiful verse there that is a Messianic verse.

Of course, Isaiah was awesome at doing Messianic prophesying. And he said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meat meek.

He has set, sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. And I love that because so many aspects of that talk about Jesus Christ that he was anointed and not the Messiah. Right. To preach good tidings.

And that's what he did. He preached good tidings. Hey, you may be captive, but I'm here to free you from your sins. Do you know what I mean? Bind up the brokenhearted.

And I pause and I just think, how many times have I been brokenhearted and fallen on my knees and felt his peace, that it's going to be okay, Tamara, even though I don't know what okay looks like. Yeah, it's going to be okay. I'll walk beside you as you go through this. You're not alone. And it's just.

Oh, I love so many of these verses that help me understand the role of the Savior better. Right. What verses have stood out to you?

Or maybe you've had an experience you'd like to share where you felt some of those key phrases or pieces come into play.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:11:37.800 - 00:14:03.780

You know, I. I think is that it's funny because that's the one I marked too. Like, I had a. I stuck a. A little post it note in there.

And I think the thing that sticks out to me is when we talk about liberty to the captives in prison and you talk about sin. And I always think to the Jews and how they were looking for that warrior Messiah. And I feel like I hear that a lot now, too.

I just want the Savior to come. I just want him to come and save us from this world. But that is not necessarily His. Like, he's not.

He's not coming, like it says, with a sword, but not in the military way that we always think. And it goes back to all of our conversations about binding and casting out Satan and. And armoring up.

But he is here to help us know how to Defeat that, that. That is the prison. That is the captive. That is where and in our own weaknesses and our own things. And when you.

I loved when you said, bind up the brokenhearted because I thought, oh, yeah. There have been times in my life where my, my heart has been shattered, like, in pieces.

And the only way it came together was through the hope and my testimony of my Savior, Jesus Christ, that He is the One no matter where I look to in this world.

And right now I've got some, some big questions that I wonder how to help my children in a very confusing day and age that are facing some real struggles. And you know, anytime I'm in the world and I hear the voices of the world, it's noisy.

But when I'm reminded to go to he who is our help, who is the anointed One, and I listen for his voice, then I find confidence to keep walking the path, even though I don't know if the next step is going to feel like a trap or a snare, but, but I know that if I fall in that he's right there with his hand to lift me out.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:14:05.360 - 00:14:27.646

Yeah, I really, really like that. That, that imagery, right, that imagery that Jesus will help us. He will save us. He will. Through him we can be set free. Liberty to the captives.

Also, the, the one other thought that came to me kind of ties into the next word that we were going to talk about. We're

Stay tuned. Hey, friends, have you started thinking about Mother's Day yet?

Every Mother's Day, I have a hard time finding gifts to give my mom, sisters and friends. And so today I'm so excited to tell you about this booklet, the Mother's Might, an old parable for modern women.

It's a perfect, inexpensive, and meaningful gift you can give for Mother's Day. And it's not just a little piece of candy that they eat and forget.

It's something they can read over and over again because they relate to Sarah, the woman in the story who feels so alone, overwhelmed, and like no one understands the trials weighing upon her shoulders. And what I love about this story is the pivotal point where Sarah dreams.

She watches the widow give her last two mites and then hears Jesus Christ speak words of love and understanding that.

This story shares hope, which is what I want to share for Mother's Day. So order some copies of the Mother's might [email protected] store and share hope for Mother's Day this year.

The

Tamara K. Anderson

00:15:49.776 - 00:17:33.510

one other thought that came to me kind of ties into the next word, that we were going to talk about him being the Son of God. And. And I. I pause.

And I think he inherited so much from God the Father, you know, the ability to live a sinless life, the ability to overcome death when none of the rest of us could have done that. Right. And I find it so interesting that John the Baptist, who was the precursor to Christ, you know, he was the one that ushered him in as he.

As when Jesus went to John, that that is how John introduced him.

He said in John chapter one, he said that he, after he baptized me, said in verse 33, and I knew him not, but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he which is baptized with the Holy ghost. And verse 34. And I saw and bear record that this is the Son of God. And so he was told that whoever he saw this dove descending on and.

And staying with him, the Spirit, that that was who he was to witness. And so he pointed to him and introduced him as the Son of God. And then when his disciples. When he was.

The next day, when his disciples saw him, he introduced him as the Lamb of God, which we talked about the Lamb of God last week. But him being symbolic of. He is the one that will pay the price for your sins.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:17:33.680 - 00:17:34.202

Yeah.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:17:34.266 - 00:17:57.110

That's what allows him to set us free, Honestly, you know what I mean?

So I love that those are two of the titles that John the Baptist, who was foreordained from the womb to testify of Christ, that those are two of the names that. That John used when he described Jesus. So beautiful. Right?

LaMira Wheelwright

00:17:57.410 - 00:19:27.980

And I feel like as you share that, it reminds me of when he was in the womb. I mean, his spirit knew Jesus Christ from the very beginning.

And my husband pointed that out the other day when we were discussing things as a family. And he's like, even John the Baptist knew even before. And sometimes, you know, we.

We know, we forget as we grow up and we don't remember those things. And we don't know how old John was when his. At least I don't know how old he was when his parents passed away.

But, you know, he must have been young because they were old and he lived in the wilderness right on his own. And so it's almost like though I bet he had an inkling, right. Because he was close with Jesus. I feel like he knew, and it was just that confirmation.

And sometimes we have this idea and then that confirmation comes. And I know for me, the same thing has been with my Savior is I feel like, okay, I've not seen him in the flesh, but I sure have felt him. And.

And when I think about him, and that's the word that always got me was the begotten Son of God. And I was like, what. What do I know about begotten?

So I'm curious if you know anything about that, Tamara, other than what he tells us is he is the only begotten of the Father. Right. But I was like, what. What do we know about that?

Tamara K. Anderson

00:19:28.280 - 00:21:22.090

Yeah, No, I love. I love this question. And you know what's so interesting is I was pondering that exact same thing.

The verse that popped into my head is one of the most often quoted scriptures and that we quote in the New Testament, and It is John 3:16, where it says, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. And so we read about that, that he was his only begotten son, his firstborn.

And last week we kind of talked a little bit about that and how that plague that hit ancient Israel that finally set them free from the Egyptians, that the blood that's preserved the Israelites that saved their oldest son was. That's what the. The. The Egyptians had to end up sacrificing, was the same sacrifice that was required of God to give his son, to free his people.

And, oh, my goodness. There's such symbolism in so many of the titles of Jesus, and they kind of weave in and out. And.

And I think the more that I've been diving into his titles, the more I see how important it is that we see all the aspects of Jesus, you know, that. That he. He came as God's own son to save each of us, to save all of us. And it was a sacrifice like.

Like, I can't even imagine somebody saying, I'm gonna take your oldest son and you must watch him die, and all that stuff. I mean, I. I would probably just.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:21:22.130 - 00:21:24.794

Burst out or send him you. And you have to send him there.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:21:24.882 - 00:21:26.538

And you have to send there.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:21:26.674 - 00:23:31.950

Same with Abraham, right? We think of Abraham and Isaac and. And that story of. Of, okay, well, how far are you willing to go? Can you give all. And eldest sons are inheritors.

They are the ones who inherit. And Then take care of the rest of everybody else. And so when you give that in ancient times, it is giving everything.

In this day and age, it's a little different, but it's still that first born. You think that is the one where I learned what being a parent really is or isn't who I really am or not, you know, who I need to become. And.

And suddenly we. We understand the promises of, you know, is it Samuel's mom? You know, I can't remember her name. Like, it's not coming, but who is that? Anna? Yeah.

And, you know, just dedicating that and going, that is what our. Our God did for us. And. And it wasn't just that he did it. It was that Jesus Christ volunteered to do it and said, yeah, I've got that, you know, and.

And took that on. And so anyway, I just. As you put the anointed, that this is no He. He is the one. The one. And there's, you know, the phrase no other name.

There's no other name by which we can be saved. And. And if he didn't, all things would be frustrated. And I. I think we forget that. It's easy to get lost in. In the noise.

And that's what I keep calling it right now. It's the noise of the world trying to drown out and to lead us and distract us with the pains of this world.

But when we remember, there is one who stands ready. Who. I just love that phrase. God is help.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:23:32.330 - 00:23:32.914

Mmm-hmmm

LaMira Wheelwright

00:23:32.962 - 00:23:39.470

Sent him, and he's Jesus the Christ, meaning he is help. And I've anointed this help for you.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:23:40.410 - 00:24:08.262

Yeah. And as I pause to think here, Here we are in this Easter season where we've just had Easter and.

And we're thinking more about him, I pause and think, how can I remember him better? How can I remember to incorporate him into my life so that I remember and draw on that help daily? Right?

Because, gosh, I don't know about you, but a day doesn't go by where something doesn't go sideways.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:24:08.326 - 00:24:09.766

Yeah, right.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:24:09.918 - 00:24:12.612

Maybe it's just my family. I don't know.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:24:12.806 - 00:24:17.860

Yes, it's just you, Tamara. None of the rest have issues.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:24:19.600 - 00:25:08.310

But so many things, he. He is there to support and sustain, and some weeks are worse than others. A couple weeks ago, our dog passed away.

And I tell you what, he'd become such a part of the family that losing him was so hard. And I just remember praying the whole way to the vet that angels would be with us and attend us, and God helped us in that situation.

It doesn't mean that we haven't had cheerful days since.

But he's there to help us in those moments where we're like, I don't really want to do this, and I'm going to need your help because it's really, really hard. I don't know. Any thoughts that come to your mind is how Jesus, the anointed savior, has helped you and your family?

LaMira Wheelwright

00:25:08.610 - 00:28:50.702

Oh, my goodness. There's countless. For me, one that just seems really small, but yet poignant is I. Literally yesterday I shared this online, but I had two.

Like, I just opened up my podcast while I'm cleaning because I gotta listen to something while I do it. And the first one that popped up is from somebody who's really well known out in the personal development world.

And he had a podcast all about prayer and the science behind prayer. And then the podcast that came on right after that was our own own podcast about prayer. And I thought, okay, God is telling me something.

I need to get on my knees because I've decided to jump in and. And start a little business on my own and came up against a roadblock, like, other things. I'm like, okay, jumped in and things started happening.

And just like technical roadblocks.

I mean, roadblocks of things that are things that I'm supposed to be able to know how to do, because that's what I'm marketing myself to be able to do. And suddenly I'm like, I don't know what to do and. And things out of my control.

And I got that clear message that I need to ask for help, and I need to ask for help for somebody else to be able to get. Get that message right. Because what I was waiting for was in the hands of somebody else.

I was getting frustrated and I thought, I've got to get on my knees and I need to ask, and I need to ask to.

So that person will see the email, that they'll be able to help, that I'll be able to do that, and that if this is right, then help me, that I will be able use this, that it will bless my family and not take away from it, that he's asked me to go this road instead of a different road for the time being. And it's amazing how.

Well, then this morning when I check my email, and it wasn't first thing, but a little bit later, there's the email that says, oh, here it is. Here's. Here's the help. And then another just blessing through this business. I don't even have the Website up yet?

And somebody else is like, hey, can you help me with this? You know, and that blessing coming where? And I'm gonna give you a little bit more.

And I feel like those little things, I mean, those seem seemingly simple, but it's in my purpose and my calling because I see him every day as a mom and my help, because there are for sure things that I don't know. But this was something to me. It felt little and yet big, like I'm stuck. And I'm like, is this a sign?

Sometimes I think we take things like that, roadblocks, as signs that they're like, oh, no, this is the wrong path. And I didn't feel that was like, no, this is a roadblock. And guess what? I can help you. It's out of your control, but I can help you. And you.

But you need to ask. You need to ask for help. And so, because there are things that I'm doing on this side that, you know. So for me, that's. I, I know that's.

That seems simple, but at the same time, it just reminds me to get on my knees and am I asking in everything? And then when that email came through, I literally out loud said, thank you, God.

Thank you for answering that prayer and sending that answer instead of it being, you know, something else. I'm like, okay, there it is.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:28:50.886 - 00:28:59.262

Yeah, well. And I think it also reminds us that we can pray and ask God for help, even in things, things that seem so little.

LaMira Wheelwright

00:28:59.446 - 00:29:00.210

Yeah.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:29:00.630 - 00:29:45.506

And especially when we are juggling people that we love and, and their challenges as well. I know there's been times when I've been talking to my kids and they're falling apart, and I'm sitting there thinking, I don't know how to fix this.

I don't know what to say. I mean, I don't know if you've been like that with your kids or with co workers or anything like that.

So many times we're dealing with other people who are having challenges as well. And you're. And at those times, I've also learned to ask God for help. I don't know what to say here.

God, will you please help me see this situation in a way and say things that will be comforting or helpful or instructive. And it's so interesting when we ask for that help.

Yeah.

You know, God is help. That was what Jesus means when we ask for his help.

That often those prayers as we want to help and serve others, that God answers those prayers almost faster than anything else because he, he, we are Asking, can we be your hands? Yes, help us, help others. And, and that is what Jesus was all about. That is what his name means.

And, and there's been times when I've been talking to my kids and all of a sudden I'll say something and explain something and I'm like, I sit back afterwards and go, huh, well that was cool.

I'd never thought about it that way before and the words were just like coming out of my mouth and I'm like, well that was definitely an answer to prayer because I had never thought about it like that before. I don't think I could have ever calmed this child down or said things in a way that were helpful. And yet ask and ye shall receive.

Isn't that the invitation in the scriptures? He invites us so many times. Ask, just ask, just ask. And I'm sure there's like our angels that are just waiting and all we have to do is ask.

And there's been times I've had to ask for technology. Angels come and help me because I woof back end of this website. I'm trying to figure it out and I can't. Hello.

And I think sometimes we put that, I think it's like what you said.

Sometimes we'll say, well if it's, if it's not a person like a personnel question or humanitarian question or that he doesn't, that maybe it's less than.

But when I think it's important to pull out that technical stuff too and just say lead me, guide me to those places or open my mind or help me be clear and patient.

And sometimes it's just a matter of waiting or nowhere to look because I feel like, like you said when we're out there to bless the lives of others that we have these purpose driven to help. I mean how many times have we gotten on our kids homework and been like, oh, I was like okay, that was like 40 years ago.

I don't know, you know, like and, or I, I don't know how to help this kid because all of the ways that I knew what worked or what worked for me do not work for this child. And like you said, it really sometimes is the opposite of my nature to go that way. And it definitely isn't an idea that came from me.

So, so yeah, reaching out for that God has help. And then I like I said bookending it with thanking him for that because he did send him for us and he did send his angels.

And so just reminding sometimes when it's been a day, like first thing when I get up in the morning is to thank him for my Savior, even if I don't know what else is going on or my brain's not clear. Like, thank thee for him because then I'm focused on Him.

I love that. That is such a beautiful way. You kind of just took this whole thing and tied it into a beautiful little bow and, you know, gratitude, ask for help.

He's there. Nothing is too small. These are all things that we can apply to our lives.

And, and I think just understanding all those little pieces of the different pieces of Jesus's name and what he can do for us as we invite him in every day. Oh, my goodness.

So I guess for me, in summary, I would say my life is better every day when I invite Jesus Christ, the anointed Messiah and Son of God, to be a part of it. And I need to remember to do that every day because he makes every day better, right?
