Is caring for your mental health "one more thing to do that affects all others"?

Mental health is a deeply personal journey, and for Christian women, it is intertwined with faith and the promises of God. In a world that often values "busyness" over rest, and achievement over grace, the challenges of mental well-being can feel overwhelming, and like "one more thing to do." However, in the midst of struggles, we are reminded that our worth is not determined by what we do but by who we are in Christ.

The Bible speaks of God’s steadfast care, even in our most vulnerable moments. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” ~Matthew 11:28-30

This invitation from Jesus is a call to exchange our anxieties for the lightness of His presence; to trust Him with our fears and doubts.

We may feel the pressure to always appear strong, joyful, or unshakable, but even in our weakness, God's strength is made perfect. Seeking help, whether through prayer, trusted friends, counselors, or medical professionals, is not a lack of faith, but an act of courage and humility. It acknowledges that we are vessels, and it is God’s power that sustains us.

In the words of Corrie ten Boom, a faithful daughter of God who endured the unimaginable during World War II:
"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength."

In the darkest valleys, God’s light can guide us forward. Mental health struggles do not mean you are failing as a Christian—they mean you are human, living in a broken world. But we serve a Savior who heals, redeems, and restores.

If you are feeling overwhelmed today, know this: You are deeply loved, seen, and valued by your Creator. Do not hesitate to reach out for help, trusting the One Who heals that healing is possible, as all things are, with Him.
