Summary

Have you ever wondered how to overcome spiritual warfare, especially when a battle lasts for months or even years? When you have been praying, contending, and crying out for a struggling child, it is incredibly easy to feel exhausted and wonder why the breakthrough is taking so long. If you are weary from a heavy family trial and searching for hope, you are in the exact right place!

In this powerful episode of the Arise Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson reveals what it truly takes to conquer the enemy's attacks. We dive into the foundational blueprint of victory found in Revelation 12, showing why true overcoming is never a physical endurance contest. You will discover the breathtaking prayer of total dependence used by King Asa to defeat an insurmountable army of one million soldiers, and how trading your human striving for divine reliance changes everything.

Tamara also opens up about a deeply personal, multi-year battle for one of her children, drawing incredible parallels to the persistent faith of the Canaanite mother in Matthew 15. You will learn how to endure those long-haul prayers by anchoring your family in the grace of our Savior Jesus Christ. Tune in to discover how to stop fighting for victory, and start fighting from the victory Christ has already won!

Episode Takeaways

  • The Overcoming Blueprint (Revelation 12:11): Victory is not a physical endurance contest! We overcome by the blood of the Lamb (the Atonement), the word of our testimony (spoken truth), and surrendered devotion to God.
  • Total Dependence (2 Chronicles 14): When facing an army of one million soldiers, King Asa didn't scramble for a human alliance. He admitted his total lack of power and rested entirely on God. Overcoming begins the exact second you stop trying to fix the crisis in your own human strength!
  • The Long-Haul Prayers (Matthew 15): Some battles take years. When you are fighting for a struggling child, you must mimic the Canaanite mother who fell at the Savior's feet and refused to walk away. Jesus Christ is in your fight for the long haul.
  • More Than Conquerors (Romans 8:37): You are not fighting for victory. Because of what Jesus did on the cross and at the empty tomb, you are fighting from a position of victory. The enemy's strength is finite, but the power backing your family is infinite.

Reflection Questions

  • When faced with an insurmountable family trial, do you tend to scramble for a "human alliance" and try to fix it yourself, or do you cry out in total dependence like King Asa?
  • Read Romans 8:37. How does shifting your mindset from "fighting for victory" to "fighting from victory" change the way you view your current struggles?
  • Are you currently in a "long-haul" season of prayer for a loved one? How can the story of the Canaanite mother give you the strength to keep pleading at the Savior's feet today?

I'm your host Tamara K. Andersen and today we are talking all about what it truly takes to overcome spiritual warfare in your home and family. Here's what we'll be covering in today's episode. First, I'll share the Overcoming Blueprint from Revelations chapter 12, verse 11 and First John 5.

Second, we'll talk about total dependence and how King Asa cried out to God against an army of 1 million soldiers. It's a good story.

Third, we will dive into those long haul prayers and what we can learn from the Canaanite mother in Matthew 15 and my own family's journey about not giving up. Finally, we'll conclude with More Than conquerors how Romans 8:37 establishes our posture of fighting from victory rather than for victory.

But let's begin with the foundational blueprint of overcoming. When we talk about overcoming spiritual warfare, the first thing we must understand is that victory is not a physical endurance contest.

Look at the divine formula revealed in Revelations 12:11 and they overcame him, meaning the devil by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they loved not their lives unto the death. Notice the three pillars of that victory.

First, the blood of the Lamb, the redeeming atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ helped them overcome. Second, the word of their testimony. The bold spoken truth of who God is and what he has done in your and my lives.

Third, the surrendered devotion, a heart anchored so deeply in Christ that earthly comfort is secondary to following him. In First John 5:4:5 it reads, for whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world, and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? So overcoming looks like daily anchoring your faith in Jesus Christ. You don't overcome by having all the answers.

You overcome because the one to whom you are yoked has already conquered the grave and the adversary. So what does overcoming look like when the opposition against your family feels completely insurmountable? Well, let's look at king Asa.

In 2 Chronicles 14, 9, 13, Asa was confronted by a massive Ethiopian army of 1 million soldiers. That is so insurmountable. Outnumbered and outmatched, Asa didn't scramble to form a human alliance or surrender to panic.

Instead, he cried out to the Lord with this incredible prayer of total dependence in verse 11. Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many or with them that have no power.

Help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on Thee, and in Thy name we go against this multitude. Oh, talk about faith.

Scripture records that the moment Asa admitted his total lack of human power and rested in the name of the Lord, God struck the army and quote, they were destroyed before the lord, as verse 13 states. Wow. Later, in 2 Chronicles 32, 7, 8, King Hezekiah echoed this same truth to his people. Be strong and courageous. Be not afraid nor dismayed.

For there be more with us than with him. With him, the enemy is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.

Oh, my sister, the enemy's strength is only an arm of flesh, finite, limited, and fragile. But the power backing you and your family is sovereign and infinite.

Overcoming begins the exact second you stop trying to fix the crisis in your own human strength and pray, lord, I have no power against this multitude, but. I rest in your name.

Now let's talk about the reality of God's timing. Overcoming the adversary with Jesus is always dependent on the Lord's timeline. There are times when the deliverance is quick.

For example, when sudden anger or frustration flares up. I can immediately take that emotion to God in prayer and cast out the spirit of anger or contention in the name of Jesus Christ.

And then I invite his peace back into my soul right away. But there are other spiritual battles that. Take years and years.

I remember when one of my children struggled with a pornography addiction as a teenager. That was a long, painful and exhausting battle to overcome. As a mother, you cannot control every single choice your child makes. Agency is real.

I had to pray with my child and for my child, doing everything that was in my power, and then place all the rest into the Savior's hands, trusting his grace and timing.

In those long years, I felt like the Canaanite mother in Matthew 15:21 28. Her daughter was grievously vexed with the devil.

She came to Jesus crying out for mercy even when she faced silence and cultural barriers, she did not walk away. She came and she fell at the Savior's feet, worshiped him and said, lord, help me.

When Jesus tested her faith, she persisted with humble boldness, saying that even dogs eat the crumbs from their Master's table. Jesus marveled at her faith, at her heart, and declared, o woman, great is thy faith. Be it unto thee even as thou wilt.

And her daughter was healed from that very hour. Oh my friends like that mother, I just kept pleading before the Lord for my child.

And miracles did come by faith, both through my faith and my child's growing faith. But it took time to overcome. I'm so deeply thankful that God does not abandon us in the middle of a long battle.

And I can testify that Jesus Christ is in your fight too for the long haul. This is why Paul writes in Romans 8:37 nay, in all these things we.

Are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Notice that Scripture does not say you.

Might conquer if you try hard enough. You are more than conqueror right now. Why? Because you are not fighting for victory.

You are fighting from the victory Christ has already won on the cross and at the empty tune. When the battle stretches on, your job. Is not to panic or force the outcome. Your job is to stay there at the feet of Jesus, speak His truth.

And keep standing firm in his love. Oh my dear sister, my dear friend. Whether you are facing a sudden flare.

Up walking through a multi year battle for your family, know that you have been given the tools and the capacity to overcome through Jesus Christ. If you need a step by step roadmap to surrender, worry, partner with God and track his faithfulness through every season.
