If you find yourself asking, "Can God speak to you through your thoughts?" you are in the right place! In this episode of the Arise, Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson and guest Tiffany Fletcher dive into the internal mechanics of personal revelation. We discuss the "first voice rule" and how to easily distinguish an inspired, divine thought from the second voice of doubt and fear.

Listen in as Tiffany shares the beautiful "Wildflower Miracle," proving that when we follow a sudden, good prompting, we can literally be the answer to someone else's desperate prayer. Tamara also reveals her secret for receiving "early morning downloads"—how handing your biggest problems to God at night can result in waking up with clear solutions. Whether you need the courage to step out of your comfort zone or want to know how to pray in the heat of a stressful moment, this episode is packed with practical tips to cure spiritual paralysis. Tune in to move from mental noise to divine direction, and learn how to confidently trust that still, small voice!

Episode Takeaways

  • The First Voice Rule: God's voice is usually the first good thought that comes to mind. The adversary is the second voice that immediately follows, trying to convince you the idea is stupid or awkward.
  • The Wildflower Miracle: When you act on a sudden thought to do something kind, you are often being used as the literal answer to someone else's desperate prayer.
  • Early Morning Downloads: Hand your complex problems to God before you go to sleep. He often answers with clear thoughts and ideas early in the morning before the noise of the day begins.
  • In-the-Moment Prayers: When facing a stressful conversation or a parenting hurdle, a quick, silent prayer for guidance is often answered with immediate thoughts on exactly what to say.

And welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Andersen.

And joining me today is the terrific and talented Tiffany Fletcher, a member of our Women warriors of Light Advisory board. And today we are diving into the internal mechanics of revelation.

First, we're going to discuss the still small voice and the best and easiest test to tell if it's from God. Second, we'll share a quote by Dallas Willard.

Third, Tiffany is going to share the Wildflower miracle, proof that when you follow a prompting, you might just be the answer to someone's prayer. And finally, we'll talk about the early morning downloads, how to hand your problems to God at night and wake up with the solution.

But first, let's kick it off by talking about that still small voice.

Tiffany Fletcher

00:01:55.410 - 00:02:56.240

God can absolutely speak to us through our thoughts. And we were told that he's a still small voice.

And, and so many times in my life had those thoughts that just are inspiring and just lead me to do good. And I think that that's really how you know whether or not it's your thought or whether it's. It's not. Is. Is it leading you to do good? If it is, it's.

It's thought from God and God speaking to you and in giving you an invitation to, to be his hands here on this earth. And, and I love that he works that way. I think. I think sometimes, yes, he can speak an auditory voice.

Moses heard him speak through the bush, but I think most of the time it's he's speaking to us in a still small voice in our thoughts, in our mind and in our heart to help us know what he would have us Do. And again, if it leads us to do good, then it is good and I say do it.

God, I think, gives us lots of invitations and he is so grateful when we are willing to act on them, to bless his children.

There you have it, friends. If it leads to good, it's from God.

But the tricky part is that the adversary is usually the second voice, the one that shows up five minutes later or an hour later telling you to doubt that idea as stupid or awkward. Dallas Willard once said that God's voice usually shows up like a thought that is not your own.

Sometimes he tests us with a nudge that will bump us out of our comfort zone. The more I try to connect with.

God and hear him better, sometimes I think he tests us a little bit, like, I'm going to give her this thought.

And sometimes it's something that takes you out of your comfort zone a little bit, like text this person and you're like, I don't know them well enough to text them God, you know what I mean? But if it persists and it's a good thing, you're just, hey, I'm thinking of you.

Or just thought I'd check on you, had a thought to connect with you today or something simple.

If you've got a persistent thought and it's God, it's like God's almost tapping you on the brain, like, and you know, it's good, but it's a little bit scary. Try it anyway, right?

It doesn't hurt to send someone some love or to pray for someone, hey, I'm thinking of you today and praying for you and your family. How hard is that?

I mean, wouldn't you, even if it was somebody you didn't know very well, wouldn't you appreciate that somebody was thinking about you and praying for you? Yes, right. I'm like, all the prayers I can get send my way, Lord, you know, I love that. If it's something good, just act on it.

I think the adversary is usually the second voice that comes and says, that's stupid, that's dumb, right?

So my friends, we have to follow that first voice. When we do, we often find that our so called random thought was actually a precise answer to someone's desperate prayer.

God loves when we are willing to be his hands on this earth.

There are so many people who need love and who need to fill his love through us and, and he can use us in so many ways and, and who knows, we may be the answer to someone's prayers. I remember one time I was having a really really hard day. And I. I was like, I really love flowers.

And so I was like, God, I just really would love some flowers. It was just a thought that I had.

And I was like, you know, I just need flowers to help me feel just joyful today because it was a really, really hard day. That afternoon, a knock came to the door, and a woman in the neighborhood brought me some beautiful flowers that she had picked out of her garden.

So lovely. And it just was a. It was just such a blessing. And she's like, I don't know why.

She's like, I was in my garden, and the thought came that I should pick some of these for you. And she's like, I know that they're. They're not much, but I just felt that maybe you could use them today. And I thought that was beautiful. Beautiful.

What a beautiful gift, right?

And I told her that they were answered to my prayer and that through her, I was able to feel God's love and that I felt seen and I felt heard, and I just thanked her for following the spirit and. And I think that we need more of that.

When those thoughts come into our mind, they are from our Heavenly Father, because he knows the prayers of our neighbors and he knows what will bless them, and he will use us if we're willing to make a difference in their lives.

God uses us to answer each other's prayers, but the good news is he also wants to answer you directly.

I have found that if I lay my problems at the altar at night before I go to sleep, God often provides a download before the world gets too noisy the next morning.

Sometimes before I go to bed and I'm dealing with a particularly plexing problem, either with work or with one of my kids or whatever family situation. Sometimes in my evening prayers, I'll just say, heavenly Father, here's some of the things I'm really wondering about.

But this one in particular, I'm really like, I don't know how to solve this problem. It's almost like I'm just handing it to him, laying it on the altar and saying, can you help me figure this out? You know?

And it's interesting how so many times as I start to wake up the next morning, and sometimes it's really early, you know, 4:35, sometimes 3 in the morning. But all of a sudden, these little thoughts will come into my mind, have you tried this? Or what about this? And I'm like, oh, my goodness, yes.

So sometimes God will answer me first thing in the morning before phones or anything else. Is Turned on to distract me. It's like, I've got your attention now. Here's your thought, here's your answer, here's an idea.

And so I try to remember and write those things down, because that's often how God speaks to me. Now. He may speak to different people different ways.

I'm just sharing how he often answers and shares ideas and thoughts in my mind first thing in the morning.

And there I will be honest, there have been times when it's like too early and I'm like, will you remind me of this when I wake up and I roll over and go back to sleep? But then I'm waking up, okay, remind me what that was again so I can write it down and act on it.

But yeah, it's all about being intentional. And sometimes that intentionality happens in the heart of the moment.

We have all been in those stressful situations where we don't know what to say in those moments. A quiet one thought prayer can change everything.

This person has posed a question that I don't know how to answer. It's a stressful situation. I don't know how to solve this. Or a kid has.

One of my children has come to me and I'm just like, I don't know how to react to whatever they're, you know, venting or sharing with me right now. And those silent prayers when I'm like, lord, please help me know what to say, guide me that I can say the right thing, that is also answered.

Because something will pop into my mind. And all of a sudden I find myself saying something, and I'll look back on the conversation and go, that so was not me.

That was an answer to my prayers.

It was God putting thoughts and ideas into my mind of what to say and how to help whoever it is that I'm talking to resolve whatever conflict or stress or whatever. And so that is another way that we can both communicate to God in our thoughts, but also that he can help us through our thoughts.

But it requires us inviting him in, you know, will you help me with this? And it's just a super fast prayer that is very often answered.

I love that. I love that. I love that when we open our mouths, God will fill it if we ask. And I think that that's beautiful.
